UKRI’s new Open Access policy

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the UK government’s body that directs research and innovation funding, is introducing a new Open Access policy.

From 1 April 2022, UKRI-funded authors need to arrange for journal articles to contain a Data Access Statement, and be published immediately Open Access, with no embargo, under a CC BY licence.

Use the boxes below to access information on the new policy, and guidance on how to ensure that UKRI-funded papers meet the funder’s new requirements. You can also watch a short (6 minutes) presentation which introduces the policy and explains how University of Manchester authors can ensure compliance.

For more information about the long-form output component of UKRI's Open Access policy, which is due to be introduced in January 2024, please see our dedicated webpage.
