John Rylands Research Institute and Library is located on Deansgate in the heart of Manchester.
The main entrance to the building is just off Deansgate, in the modern extension to the Library.
From Deansgate, proceed along the side of the Historic Building to the main entrance.

How to get here
By train
There are several train stations in the city centre: Piccadilly, Victoria, Oxford Road, Deansgate and Salford Central.
These are served by the free bus shuttles (see below) that will take you around the city. All the shuttles stop near the Library.
By free bus (shuttle)
The easiest way to reach the John Rylands Research Institute & Library from Piccadilly and Oxford Road railway stations is via the free buses.
Free bus 1 runs from the approach to Piccadilly station every 10 minutes and also serves Oxford Road station. Alight on Bridge Street, then walk up Bridge Street to the junction with Deansgate (200 metres), then turn right onto Deansgate until you reach the Rylands (50 metres).
Free bus 2 also runs from the approach to Piccadilly station every 10 minutes. Alight on King Street, walk down the pedestrianised section of King Street (250 metres), then turn left onto Deansgate until you reach the Rylands (150 metres).
By Metrolink tram
The nearest Metrolink tram stop is St Peter's Square, a six-minute walk (500 metres).
Walking directions from the Metrolink
From St Peter's Square Metrolink Station, walk north-west along Lloyd Street (between the Town Hall and Town Hall Extension), cross Albert Square, then walk down pedestrianised Brazennose Street until you reach Deansgate.
The modern entrance of the John Rylands Research Institute and Library is facing you on the other side of Deansgate.
By car
The City centre can be accessed via the M60 outer ring road by following signs for the City Centre and then the Inner ring road.
Please note there is no parking at the Library. There are several car parks within walking distance of the Library.
The nearest NCP car parks are on Watson Street, New Quay Street and Blackfriars Street.

By bus
The nearest bus stops are on John Dalton Street (stop WX) and Bridge Street (stop WF).
Travelling from the University? The V1 and V2 buses leave the Students Union regularly and stop on John Dalton Street (stop WX), close to the junction with Deansgate.

Bikes can be secured in Spinningfields Square, in front of the Library. We unfortunately cannot allow folding bikes into the Library.
