Ian Gifford

Biography

Following 10 years working in the defence industry Ian joined the Library in 2010 as a software developer in the Digital Technologies and Services team until 2014 when he took on leadership of the Digital Library Development (DLD) Team.

The DLD team comprises a number of permanent software developers and web/digital specialists who develop and support a range of innovative digital applications in support of Library users as well having technical oversight of the Library’s website and social media platforms.

During his time in the Library Ian has led on the development of a number of innovative applications and services including Library Forms, UoM Checkout, Open Access Compliance Platform and Digital Dashboards. Ian is also the technical lead for the Manchester Digital Collections Platform.

Ian is particularly interested in the introduction and application of new and innovative technology to help the Library achieve its vision in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. In addition to his technical interests Ian is a keen musician, has a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music and is musical director of the Library Choir.
