Managing and presenting our collections
The Library’s duty is to collect, manage and preserve resources representing the historical record to support teaching and research. We strive to make our collections available in the most responsible way possible.
A core value of any university is academic freedom, and the Library is committed to supporting this principle by ensuring that students and researchers have access to a diverse range of resources. This includes resources that may be challenging or controversial, enabling students to deepen their studies, develop critical perspectives, and thoughtfully engage with various viewpoints.
We are working to assess our collections to apply content warnings where appropriate, and to amend catalogue records, finding aids, and other sources of information where we can. This is a significant undertaking, and we aim to be transparent in this process, providing information and documentation of decisions taken.
