Our responsibilities and approach
As we subscribe to these resources, we are legally responsible for their accessibility under UK law. However, as the design and delivery of third-party platforms are controlled by third party vendors, we are sometimes limited in our ability to make direct accessibility improvements. Many providers are based in countries with different accessibility standards or legislation.
How we manage accessibility issues
If we or our users identify an accessibility issue with a third-party resource, we will report it to the vendor and work with them where possible to resolve it. When an immediate fix is not possible, we will make every effort to provide an alternative, accessible version of the content.
Ongoing accessibility work
The Library runs an ongoing project to audit the accessibility of third-party platforms and interfaces. We share our findings with vendors, encourage improvements and consider accessibility when renewing contracts or selecting new suppliers.
Accessibility Information for our top resources
To help you make informed choices, we provide detailed accessibility information for the Library’s most-used third-party resources. This includes Vendor Accessibility Statements and VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates) where available.
Vendor accessibility statements
We’ve gathered accessibility statements from our most frequently used suppliers to help you understand how accessible their platforms and resources are.
If there’s an important resource you use that isn’t included in this list, please let us know and we’ll do our best to add it.
