Associate Director: AI and Ideas Adoption

Ciaran Talbot

Biography

Ciaran is the Associate Director for the Directorate of AI and Ideas Adoption, leading on systems and digital development to deliver the Library's vision, Imagine2030, in the new context of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Working closely with all parts of the Library, Ciaran leads the Directorate in vital change in agility, ways of working, doing things differently and translating ideas into impact, ensuring our students are at the heart of relevant developments in AI.

The AIIA portfolio includes responsibility for developing the Library's role in ID Manchester, the University of Manchester's £1.7billion innovation district. As ID Manchester develops, Ciaran will be working with other members of Library Executive Team and Library Leadership Team on ground-breaking work with leading North American universities on library futures, and the ongoing engagement with the Manchester-Melbourne-Toronto Research Alliance.

Ciaran has worked at the University since 2009, beginning his career as an IT Analyst in IT Services, before moving to the Library's Digital Team in 2011. Most recently he has led the Digital Services team, providing a range of digital support services and working closely with teams across the Library to deliver digital technology and service projects, such as new discovery interfaces and new self-service equipment.

In his time at the Library he has overseen several large system migrations and has been instrumental in supporting core Library platforms, introducing Alma in 2013, and Primo VE (Library Search) in 2018. He was a champion of Digital First, the Library's digital transformation programme, and supported the move to agile working and the Library's early adoption of Microsoft Teams.

Ciaran looks forward to continuing to work with Library colleagues on bold and creative new ideas as we look to design and deliver a library for our future.
