Chris Pressler

Professor Christopher Pressler is John Rylands University Librarian and Director of The University of Manchester Library.

He has also held the positions of University Librarian and Director of the Irish Modern Archives Research Centre at Dublin City University, University Librarian of the University of London, University Librarian of the University of Nottingham and Librarian, Dartington College of Arts.

Professor Pressler has contributed to many organisations, advisory boards and committees in the UK, Ireland and around the world including the Board of Research Libraries UK, the Board of SCONUL, the Board of Ireland’s Consortium of National and University Libraries, the Digital Archival Collections Board and the LIBER Open Access Committee.

He co-founded the European portal to etheses, DART-Europe and was Chair of Digital Research in the Humanities and Arts for six years. He established the UK National Centre for Research Communications, founded Ireland’s first open access university press and is the Library’s lead for the strategic relationship with Manchester University Press.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and is Professor of Collecting Practices in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at The University of Manchester.
