The University of Manchester Library offers different types of memberships with different levels of access to our spaces and resources.
Whether you are an alumnus, an external researcher or member of the public, we have something for you.
School and college leavers (Year 12/13) can use the Library's collections and spaces free of charge for the duration of their studies, as part of the University's widening participation commitments.
Our new community membership replaces the 'external membership'. If you currently hold a paid external membership, please contact us so we can update your membership.
If you are interested in joining the Library, please browse our range of available memberships. If you're unsure which membership suits you, please contact us.
Please note the proof of ID required, any cost implications and the age restrictions in place.
If you only require access to the Library for a short period, we can provide temporary reference passes. These are only available to people over 18 years of age. Please present a current ID with a photo (eg. passport or driving licence) to the Customer Services staff at the front desk.
To ensure everyone had the best experience when using the Library, we have a series of regulations that you should make yourself aware of.
