The University of Manchester Library is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and follows The University of Manchester Privacy Policy.

How we use your information

The University of Manchester Library also collects email addresses and other limited personal information provided voluntarily for the online enquiry and chat service.

The information collected will be used to answer individual enquiries and to administer, support and obtain feedback on our service which will enable us to continually improve online help and support.

Anonymised transcripts from the chat function will be used for training purposes.

We will treat personal information as confidential and we will not share this information with other organisations. All staff who have access to personal information receive data protection training.

Data held in personal information fields (such as name) will be deleted after three months.

Our service providers will have access to personal data but only for the purposes of administering the system.

Kortext privacy policy

Kortext is the UK’s leading personal learning platform and supplier of digital textbooks.

The Library transfer student and staff email addresses and course details to Kortext in accordance with their privacy policy to enable access to the eTextbooks we provide as part of the Library’s eTextbook Programme:

Scite privacy notice

Scite is a research discovery and analysis platform that can help you to discover and analyse relevant research publications. Scite also offers a prompt style ‘Assistant’ interface which allows you to ask simple questions and get answers collated from the full-texts of millions of research articles.

In order to use the full functionality of the tool you will need to create an account using your University email address. Some personal data will be stored by Scite should you choose to use the ‘Dashboard’ feature of this platform (this can be deleted on request).
