Medium: Archive

Dr Moses Tyson (1897–1969) was Keeper of Western Manuscripts at The John Rylands Library from 1927 to 1935, then Librarian of the University of Manchester, 1935–65.

Under Tyson’s leadership, The University of Manchester Library grew into one of the largest university libraries in the country. He oversaw a major expansion of the buildings and services provided by the Library. From 1928 he was also lecturer (and from 1956 until his retirement reader) in palaeography at the University.

This small collection contains material relating to Tyson’s career as librarian and historian, as well as personal correspondence and a number of documents and photographs concerning his family and his military service during the First World War.
