Women in Theology Group Archive

Date range: c.1980-present

Medium: Archive

The Women in Theology Group was established in the early 1980s as a pressure group to campaign for the full ordination of women in the Church of England. This goal was achieved in 1994, but the Group continued to exist to promote the role of women within all Churches and to act as a forum for feminist theology until it eventually disbanded in 1999.

The archive comprises administrative papers, correspondence files, Executive Committee minutes, membership lists, newsletters and publicity materials. There are also newsletters and publications from many other Christian evangelical and feminist organizations in Britain, the United States and continental Europe.

These will be of enormous interest to feminist historians and students of contemporary theology, and they augment the Library's existing rich holdings of theological archives, which are particularly strong in the Nonconformist and evangelical fields.
