Rupert Davies Papers
Date range: 1964-1994.
Dr Rupert Eric Davies (1909-1994) was educated at St Paul's School and Balliol College, Oxford, before training for the Methodist ministry at Wesley House, Cambridge.
He was ordained in 1937. After five years in the circuit ministry in Bristol he was appointed tutor in church history at Didsbury College, Bristol, and from 1967 until 1973 he served as Principal of Wesley College. Davies later returned to circuit work and in 1976 he took up an appointment as Warden of the New Room, Bristol.
He served as President of the Methodist Conference in 1970, sat on numerous committees and councils, and was a prolific writer in the fields of Church history, theology and ecumenicity.
The collection contains material relating to Dr Davies as an ecumenicist, educationalist, minister, writer, Church historian and advocate of Church unity.
