Ron Ockwell Papers

Ron Ockwell is a former humanitarian worker and consultant who produced guidance and training materials for humanitarian work for several major NGOs.

This collection, which was accumulated by Ockwell over the course of his consultancy work, consists of reports, operational manuals, assessment materials, training guides, and grey literature relating to humanitarian emergency response, disaster preparedness, contingency planning, food security, nutrition, and inter-agency cooperation.

It provides insight into operational practices and policy evolution within major international NGOs including UNICEF, WHO, WFP, and the Red Cross, as well as the development of collaborative frameworks such as the Sphere project and the Humanitarian Accountability Project. The collection reflects the evolution and professionalization of humanitarian practices over several decades.

The collection also covers several of Ockwell’s humanitarian consultancies in different countries, including Somalia, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Lebanon and Afghanistan.
