Lee also developed and performed a one man show of routines by the American stand-up comedian Lord Buckley, first in Manchester, later touring to Amsterdam, New York and London.

In 1979, Lee and John Scott released their debut album as "Gerry & the Holograms”.

Lee wrote two important volumes about Bob Dylan, one of which, Like The Night, focuses on Dylan’s famous 1966 'Judas’ performance at Manchester’s Free Trade Hall.

Shake, Rattle & Rain, is adapted from his PhD thesis on Manchester music- making and When We Were Thin, published in 2007 is a personal memoir in which Lee recounts his involvement in the Manchester and UK music and cultural scenes.

Lee retired after being a course leader in film studies and senior lecturer at the University of Salford, and continued writing and presenting talks, as well as documentaries for BBC Radio and TV. From 2004, he was also a co-trustee of the Manchester Digital Music Archive.

CP Lee died in September 2020

The collection is of interest to researchers across many disciplines, including history, popular culture, music, design, sociology and politics.
