A small collection of papers of the psychiatrist Leslie Hilliard (1905-1997), a leading specialist in mental disability. Hilliard was known for his work with children with mental disabilities, and was a powerful advocate of their integration into the mainstream education system.

The collection covers Hilliard's professional work at the Fountain Hospital, London, and his membership of the World Health Organisation’s Expert Advisory Panel on Mental Health and the Institute for Research into Mental Retardation. The papers include reports, book reviews, newspaper cuttings and some personal letters.
