Arthur Milnes Marshall Papers
Date range: 1884-1893
Medium: Archive
A small collection of papers of Arthur Milnes Marshall (1852-1893), Professor of Zoology at Owens College, Manchester (which later became the University of Manchester), 1879-93.
He published a number of important papers on the origin and development of nervous systems in higher animals, before his early death in a climbing accident.
There is material relating to the academic disciplines of zoology and botany: Marshall is acknowledged as a pioneer in the teaching of both subjects. There are also papers concerning the foundation and early years of the College's Athletic Union, with which Marshall was closely involved.
