Richard Scott joined the Rough Trade shop in 1977 as their third employee and developed the ‘The Cartel’ a revolutionary nationwide independent distribution system. This allowed independent artists and labels across the country to be able to distribute their records nationwide to independent stores via Rough Trade. In 1978 Rough Trade launched its own record label most notably signing The Smiths in 1983.
The Richard Scott archive contains materials from the late 1970’s and early 80’s.
