Anthony McCarthy Collection

Medium: Mixed media

Salford-born Anthony McCarthy (born 1974) is an L S Lowry researcher, lecturer and mixed-media artist, based in the North West of England.

McCarthy's drawings are a detailed exploration of urban life in Manchester and Salford. Inspired by graphic design and printmaking; the streets, buildings and architecture of these neighbouring cities are meticulously recreated in his distinct style onto paper. Pen and ink are often utilised to build up detailed lines and layers, adding depth and individuality to the immediately recognisable works.

McCarthy's work has parallels with the work of L S Lowry and he has exhibited at the Lowry Centre, The John Rylands Library and other venues around Manchester and Salford.

    Works held:
  • John Ryland’s Library Reading Room
  • Salford Lads Club
  • LS Lowry
  • Various works in print

The collection is of interest to researchers across many disciplines, including art, architecture, the history of art; and to those interested in visual culture, popular culture and sociology.
