North West Printing Collection

Date range: 1771-1894

Medium: Printed

Number of items: 245 items.

This collection consists mainly of nineteenth-century pamphlets printed in the north-west of England. The core collection was acquired by the Library in the 1920s from a local antiquary, Frank Andrew, but subsequent additions have been made. Although there is an emphasis on Manchester, examples of provincial printing are included from more than thirty towns in Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. Covering diverse aspects of local history and topography, the collection includes: sermons; speeches; trial reports; catalogues; almanacs; poetry, drama and Lancashire dialect; reports, proceedings and other publications by local clubs, societies and institutions, and details of public meetings, exhibitions and lectures.
