Wesley Collection (Rylands)

The collection was founded in 1903 with the purchase by Enriqueta Rylands from R. Thursfield-Smith of 858 volumes published between 1735 and 1898. The collection has been augmented since its arrival and includes some recently published material.

The content is primarily British Wesleyan Methodist, with works by John and Charles Wesley together with 18th-century works in opposition to or defence of Methodism, hymn-books and liturgies, biographies and local histories. There are also 19th and 20th century publications, which are also primarily Wesleyan Methodist in nature. They include hymn-books, reference works, biographies of the Wesleys and works on hymnology.
