Haskalah Collection

Acquired in 1970 from the historian Professor Chimen Abramsky (1917–2010), the collection relates to the Jewish Enlightenment of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The collection consists of 700 titles in 900 volumes printed between the late 18th and early 20th centuries. The majority of works are 19th-century European maskilic texts, with some works by the most well-known figures from the beginning to the end of the Haskalah.

Within the wide range of topics covered in this collection, belles lettres, biblical texts and commentaries, and Hebrew grammars and dictionaries are the most prolific. There is also a small but significant section of serial runs.
