Macdonald Inquiry
The Macdonald Inquiry into Racism and Racial Violence in Manchester was set up by Manchester City Council in 1987 following the death of Ahmed Iqbal Ullah, aged 13, who was killed by a fellow pupil in the playground of Burnage High School on 17 September 1986. The collection consists of archive material relating to the activities of the Macdonald Inquiry and supporting documentation.

The collection consists of material relating to the organisation and activities of Asian Youth Movements in Bradford and Sheffield in the late 1970s and 1980s. A substantial amount of material relates to campaigns supported by the Bradford and Sheffield groups, including local and national anti-deportation and defence campaigns, campaigns against racism, racist attacks, police harassment, workers' rights and solidarity campaigns.

Papers of Beresford Edwards -v- Society of Graphical and Allied Trades (legal papers)
Papers relating to Beresford Edwards' court case against the Society of Graphical and Allied Trades Union. In a case tainted with racism, he was expelled from the union in 1969 for alleged non-payment of dues, consequently losing his job in a closed shop. The case went to the high court in London, where Lord Denning denounced SOGAT, ordered £7,971 compensation and concluded his judgment with the dictum: "A man's right to work is now fully recognised by the law."
