Academic and wider impact
Helping researchers generate and evidence impact.
The University has an ambition to be one of the leading institutions in the world, where researchers produce work of the highest significance and impact.
Through our research metrics service we aim to empower research communities across the University to use the most appropriate metrics to help evidence the impact of their work, both within academia and beyond.
We provide Schools with citation data, which can be an indicator of the academic impact of their current research and of how their research strategy is working. In the context of REF, we also work with colleagues in other parts of the University to provide citation data which can contribute to decisions on which papers to submit.
We provide Schools with altmetric data which can be an indicator of the impact outside academia of their current research. In the context of REF, such data can also be of use particularly in preparing Impact Cases and Environment Statements.
The Library can also help academics generate new impact by reaching broader audiences with their work.
