Archives of the Amalgamated Union of Engravers to Calico Printers and Paper Stainers, and of the United Society of Engravers.

The Union of Engravers to Calico Printers and Paper Stainers was founded in Manchester in 1889. It had members in both the wallpaper and textile printing industries. In 1909 this union united with the Scottish Engravers to Calico Printers and Paper Stainers to form the Amalgamated Union, and in 1920 it changed its name to the United Society of Engravers of Great Britain and Ireland. In 1973 it transferred its undertakings to the Society of Lithographic Artists, Designers, Engravers and Process Workers.

The records include the minutes of these unions' governing bodies, as well as of the Accrington and Dinting branches. In addition, there are registers of members' subscriptions, an apprentice register, benefit books, rulebooks, and copies of various industrial agreements and reports relating to the engraving industry.
