From Lagos to London: Reimagining the Black Body across the Nigerian Diaspora
Yewande is a first year JRRI funded PhD student. Their research focuses on a contemporary analysis of the ontology of Blackness with British-Nigerian individuals as the primary focus. Opting for an interdisciplinary route, they will use the Map Collections and Lantern Slides, as well as afro-futurist literature and sound analysis to understand how Blackness and anti-Blackness has been constructed and resisted from Slavery to the modern day.
Yewande completed their MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature at the University of Manchester in 2020, focusing their dissertation on the commodification and erasure of Blackness in dance music and rave culture.
