Later Version Wycliffe New Testament, beginning of 15th century

Size: 165 x 115 mm. iv + 240 + iii folios.

Later version of John Wycliffe's translation of the New Testament. The order is Gospels, Apocalypse, Pauline Epistles, Acts, Catholic Epistles. There are the usual prologues.

The manuscript is housed in a 16th-century binding of tan calf with a gilt oval centrepiece on each board. Around f. 2v is a red and blue penwork frame. There are 5-line initials at the beginning of each book in red and blue ink with penwork infill and flourishes; there are numerous other 2-, 3- and 4-line initials in blue with red penwork infill and flourishes.

Former owners include Lea Wilson, F.S.A., Wycliffe scholar; Bertram, 4th Earl of Ashburnham (1797-1878) (Appendix no. 22); and Henry Yates Thompson (1838-1928).
