The Innovation Fund allows us to support new ideas that push us into previously unexplored territory and gives us the financial resources to take risks, invest in ground-breaking initiatives and respond to opportunities when they arise.

Thanks to the generous support of donors to the Innovation Fund, we have funded many projects to improve the Library's services.

  • Provided a set of anatomical models for the Stopford Library

Feedback from students suggested anatomical models which are used in laboratories would also be beneficial for further study.  Using donations to the Innovation Fund, we purchased a set of models, including a full torso which Medical students can now access at all times in the Library.

  • Enabled students to help shape their Library's services

The Library's Eureka! Innovation Challenge competition invited students to put forward ideas for how the Library could offer more to support their learning.  Ideas have led to the introduction of an online booking system for study spaces, a sound management system and the trial of a sleep-pod.

  • Supported the development of the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons

Often referred to as a 'digital library' the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons offers students state-of-the-art open-plan and group study spaces, multimedia facilities and collaborative workspaces.  Open 24/7 the building gives students access to leading new digital technologies, to aid their learning.

Donations to the Innovation Fund have funded the purchase of new kits for students to learn the basic computer coding skills which will be incorporated into DigiLab. We have also purchased Google Chromecast technology and lightweight, portable lecterns to make teaching spaces in the building truly digitally interactive.
