Interim University Librarian and Director of The John Rylands Library
Simon Bains is Interim University Librarian and Director of The John Rylands Library. Simon has worked in university and research libraries for 25 years, and has held senior management positions for over 10 years. Before coming to Manchester, Simon was Head of Digital at Edinburgh University Library. Prior to that he was Digital Library Manager at the National Library of Scotland, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of the National Library’s first digital strategy.
Simon has been Head of Research Services at The University of Manchester Library, prior to taking his current interim position, with responsibility for scholarly communications, research data and citation analysis services. He has a longstanding interest in open research, and engages nationally in relevant issues and conversations.
Simon has held board and committee roles with SCONUL, Research Libraries UK, OCLC and the Digital Preservation Coalition. He can be found promoting and discussing professional activities and issues on Twitter @simonjbains.
