Head of Engagement and Associate Director of The John Rylands Library and John Rylands Research Institute
Rachel Beckett has broad academic library experience. Since 2009 she has been Associate Director of The John Rylands Library and the John Rylands Research Institute, where she is responsible for the leadership and development of this world class Special Collections library with a particular focus on increased engagement with the academic community (with an emphasis on research) and on engaging wider audiences with the John Rylands Library as a cultural attraction.
Rachel is a member of the Library’s Leadership Team where she is involved in strategic planning for the University’s library service.
Externally, Rachel is a member of the advisory group to the RLUK Unique and Distinct Collection Project. Prior to 2009 Rachel held academic liaison and customer service management roles at the University of Manchester, UMIST and in Further Education, and worked as a library training consultant.
