Academic writing for exams
This workshop will focus on the skills and techniques needed to prepare for and write in exam conditions. During this workshop you will identify the similarities and differences between writing for assignments and writing in exams in order to generate a strategy for approaching exam questions. You will work with others to break down exam questions using techniques that will enable you to plan and structure your answers with success. You will also discuss methods to help you to work within time constraints, which will boost your confidence when taking exams.
Making the most of your mind: how to revise and study more effectively
Have you ever got stuck when you are trying to revise and then ended up losing all motivation to continue, or kept on trying with diminishing returns for your effort? Do you end up cramming at the last minute or find that what you are trying to learn just doesn't stick? This workshop will help you to understand the learning process and the role of memory and sleep in learning. You will learn strategies to help you to complete work on time and make the best use of your willpower - that important but limited resource.
Drop everything and...
Are you prone to procrastination? Got an assignment coming up and really need to get started? This session is designed to create a friendly and focused environment that motivates you to study without distractions (alongside other focused students). Just come prepared with work to do, you can bring a laptop or use one of ours.
How is the session structured?
There will be 10 minutes at the beginning to grab a drink and get comfortable. Then we will start the timer, and you will have 30 minutes to give your work your full attention. Every half an hour you will be encouraged to take a 10-minute break during which the Library's Student Team will be on hand to chat, offer general advice or recommend new strategies and techniques to help with your studies.
