Acquiring Library resources (teaching staff)
The Library acquires over 38,000 new items each year and these are ordered, catalogued and processed by the Collection Management division of the Library. We aim to deliver newly purchased material to the shelves using the most cost-effective and efficient means.
Order new Library books directly from your office
In 2012 we introduced a service for you to order books directly and the Library to obtain items faster.
You can access this service directly by selecting 'Purchase request' on My Manchester.
Recommend a new e-journal or database subscription
To recommend that the Library take out a subscription to a new e-journal or database, simply contact your Academic Engagement Librarian.
As these purchases represent a continuing commitment by the Library, we need to assess each request carefully in the context of the Library's finances and the current overall demand for new titles, as well as considering the journal's importance for teaching and research.
Receive new Library books direct
You can now have books you order delivered direct to your office. Just tick the appropriate box when you submit the request.
Alternatively you can choose to reserve the item for collection at the Library, or have it added to stock on the open shelves.
Please ensure your loan quota can facilitate this request.
As soon as the item is received by the Library it will be fast-tracked, issued to your Library account and delivered to your office.
You can expect delivery within 2 working days of receiving a notification email from the Library. For auditing and tracking purposes, you will need to sign for the item on receipt.
