"Very helpful"

"Conduct exemplary throughout"

"Physical handling was careful and good"

Chris Shepherd, Head of Special Collections

The Brotherton Library conservator prepared condition reports for each manuscript and liaised with the team conservator regarding their suitability for digitisation. No problems that might hinder the process were identified.

The manuscripts would be digitised at the Rylands, so transportation of the manuscripts was arranged by the Brotherton. A curator delivered the manuscripts to the Oxford Rd studio; however a temporary problem with environmental conditions at the studio required us to move the manuscripts to the Deansgate studio.

The manuscripts were digitised using the Conservation Cradle and the Phase one camera with P65+ digital back. Images were processed to 100 MB each.

Records were created in Luna, using metadata templates provided by the Brotherton, and the images uploaded. The Brotherton was provided with a set of images.

The manuscripts are now available for public view by following the links below.
