Check your journal
Open Access (OA) policies set out maximum embargo periods for Green OA and the conditions that must be met when paying Article Processing Charges (APCs), eg, use of the CC-BY licence. Some journals do not meet the terms set out in funder OA policies. Use the SHERPA services to check OA compliance When choosing a journal. This will help determine the steps to take to comply with funder OA policies.
- SHERPA/FACT (for RCUK and COAF funded authors)
- SHERPA/RoMEO (for publishers' standard self-archiving policies)
Information from these services is updated frequently but should be used with caution when assessing policy compliance.
OA funding requests and non-compliant journals
APCs cannot be paid from the University's RCUK and COAF OA funding if a journal does not comply with the funder's requirements. However authors may still be able to comply with their funder's policy by following the Green OA route.
We have been unable to approve APC payments to publishers for journals listed in the following document:
- Rejected APC Requests (PDF)
Support and guidance is available from the library but ultimately it is the responsibility of funded authors to ensure their preferred publication route is compliant with their funder's requirements.
