Overview

The main strength of the map collection is in our holdings of UK mapping, current and historical, with both topographic (general purpose) and thematic (special purpose) series. There is excellent coverage for the North West and Manchester.

The Booker and Mills collection comprises over 900 maps, including: English County maps made by eminent cartographers; ornamental French and Dutch mapping of Asia and the Far East; and old town plans of London and Paris.

The folded map collection is available to browse in the Purple Ground area of the Main Library and includes some items which are available for loan. Items from the flat map collection must be retrieved by map specialist staff by prior appointment.
