John Shipman (1788-1853)

John Shipman was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire. He entered the Wesleyan itinerancy in 1810 and after four years in home circuits, was appointed to serve as a missionary in the West Indies. He stayed overseas for eleven years and then returned to England where he laboured in home circuits until supernnuation in 1850. He retired to Cheddar in Somerset where he was instrumental in the erection of a new chapel.
