Ernest Frederick Pugh Scholes (1868-1966)

Ernest Frederick Pugh Scholes was born in Southport, Lancashire.

He was educated at Leeds Grammar School and trained for the Wesleyan ministry at Handsworth College.

Scholes served as a missionary in China from 1895 to 1927 divided by two periods of service in home circuits and by time spent with the Chinese Labour Corps in France during World War 1.

He left China in 1927 and superannuated three years later whereupon he retired to Leeds.
