Charles Henry Kelly (1833-1911)
Charles Henry Kelly was born in Salford. He came from a Methodist family although he was educated at a Quaker school. Converted at a young age, Kelly trained at Didsbury College for the ministry and entered his first circuit in 1858. A year later he was appointed to work with the armed forces and was a pioneer in what became the chaplaincy service. In 1875 he became the Secretary of the Sunday School Union and in 1889 was appointed Book Steward, a position that he held until superannuation in 1907.
Kelley served as President of Conference in 1889 and 1905.
