William Courtice (1794-1866)
William Courtice was born at Twitching in Devon. He entered the Bible Christian ministry in 1820, served as President of Conference in 1834 and 1856, Connexional Treasurer 1853-65 and as the first Treasurer of the Missionary Society in 1827 and 1844-65.
Courtice was described by the historian and minister Frederick William Bourne as one of the three most powerful men in the Connexion, the others being James Thorne and William Reed.
