Moses Tyson papers
Date range: 1897–1969.
Dr Moses Tyson (1897–1969) was Keeper of Western Manuscripts at The John Rylands Library from 1927 to 1935, then Librarian of Manchester University, 1935–65, and subsequently Librarian Emeritus.
Under Tyson’s leadership The University of Manchester Library grew into one of the largest university libraries in the provinces.
From 1928 he was also lecturer (and from 1956 until his retirement reader) in palaeography in The University of Manchester.
This small collection contains material relating to Tyson’s career as librarian and historian, as well as personal correspondence and a number of documents and photographs concerning his family and his military service during the First World War.
