What is Library Search?

Library Search allows you to search for and access resources (articles, books, journals, images etc.) held by or subscribed to by The University of Manchester Library.  It pulls together many of the Library’s systems and allows you to search across them simultaneously.

The following Library and external databases can be searched through Library Search:

  • Library catalogue (details of books and journals held by the Library)
  • eScholar (details of scholarly work created by researchers affiliated with the University of Manchester)
  • Find it (details of electronic journals to which the Library provides access)
  • Primo Central (a cross-disciplinary resource that details millions of e-resources, such as journal articles, e-books, and digital collections from sources such as Web of Knowledge, JSTOR, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect and publishers such as Elsevier, Springer and Wiley)
  • LUNA (Digital images from the Library's special collections)
  • ELGAR (Details of archive and manuscript collections held by the Library)

How do I access Library Search?

University of Manchester staff and students can access Library Search through My Manchester or through the Library website (if going via the Library website you should sign in to Library Search to ensure that you can view all resources including those restricted to University staff and students).

Non-University of Manchester staff and students can access Library Search through the Library website as a guest user and can search for all resources with the exception of some records from Primo Central which are restricted for reasons of copyright.
