Francis Athow West (1800-69)

Francis Athow West was born at Kettering, Northamptonshire, son of a Wesleyan minister of the same name. He was educated at Woodhouse Grove and entered the itinerancy in 1822. West exercised an highly successful circuit ministry that culminated in his election to the Conference presidency for 1858. Poor health forced him into retirement in 1867 and he died less than a year later at his home in Great Crosby near Liverpool.
