Luke Tyerman (1820-89)

Luke Tyerman was born at Osmotherley near Thirsk, Yorkshire. He entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1844 but was forced by ill health to retire from the active ministry in 1864.

Tyerman was one of the most distinguished Methodist historians of the 19th century. He wrote the first scholarly biographies of John Wesley, George Whitefield and John Fletcher, and wrote on a wide range of related subjects.
