Gervase Smith (1821-82)

Gervase Smith was born at Langley in Derbishire. He entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1844. Smith served as secretary of Conference in 1873 and was elected President in 1875. In 1879 he was appointed secretary of the Metropolitan Chapel Building Fund and also served as secretary of Richmond College. He spent the last two years of his life as treasurer of the Auxiliary Fund.
