Elijah Jackson (1813-94)

Elijah Jackson was born into a Methodist family in Colne, Lancashire. He was educated at the local grammar school and in 1831 was appointed to be a master at Woodhouse Grove Methodist School near Leeds, Yorkshire. He became a local preacher in 1836 and a year later left teaching to enter the ministry. With the exception of five years, Jackson's active ministry was spent in Yorkshire. He superannuated in 1878 and settled near Bradford.
