John Henderson (1761-93)
John Henderson was born in Ireland, the son of a Methodist preacher. He received his early education at Kingswood School and showed such academic promise that by the age of twelve he was teaching Greek at Trevecka College.
At the age of twenty four he went up to Pembroke College Oxford, where he quickly acquired a reputation for eccentricity and intellectual brilliance.
Henderson died at the age of thirty-two having largely failed to live up to his early promise.
