Joshua Gilpin (d.1828)

Joshua Gilpin was an Anglican minister who was closely associated with John Fletcher during the early stages of his ministry. He spent a few months staying with Fletcher before his ordination and this made a deep and lasting impression.

Gilpin served as Vicar of Wrockwardine in Shropshire between 1782 and 1828.

Gilpin's published works included an 'improved' edition of Pilgrim's Progress, an hymnal and a popular memorial to his son who died at a tragically early age.

He also wrote a biographical account of Fletcher in his translation from the French of Fletcher's The Portrait of St Paul; or, the true Model for Christians and Pastors (Shrewsbury 1790).

Gilpin collaborated with James Ireland and Mary Fletcher in a proposed  biography of Fletcher that was never in fact published.
