Edgar Dewstoe (1873-1951)

Edgar Dewstoe was born in Bury in Lancashire, the son of the Wesleyan minister William S. Dewstoe. He was educated at Kingswood and worked for several years at the Meteorological Observatory in Cornwall. He trained for the ministry at Didsbury College and was accepted for overseas service in 1897. Dewstoe's entire ministry was spent in China where he did pioneering work among the Hakkas of Shiu'kwan and served as Chairman of the South China District from 1921 to 1936. He returned to England in 1937 and spent his retirement in Stockport.
