Molly Buchanan (fl.1730)

Molly Buchanan was an actress who in 1730 appeared in The Virgin Queen at the Theatre Royal in Lincoln's Inn, London. Buchanan had, according to Charles Wesley's testimony, been a lover of the Duke of Richmond at the age of thirteen and had afterwards had a number of other relationships. She and Charles Wesley, who was an Oxford undergraduate at the time, engaged in a brief courtship in 1729 which was encouraged by Molly's socially ambitious mother. The relationship ended as little more than a flirtation.
