Bridget Bevan (1698-1779)

Bridget Bevan was born at Derllys Court in Carmarthenshire. She was the youngest daughter of John Vaughan, patron of SPCK schools in Carmarthenshire. In 1721 she married a local laywer and Member of Parliament Arthur Bevan (d.1741).

Bevan was the chief supporter of the educational work of the evangelical Anglican minister Griffith Jones. She left £10,000 in her will to the schools that Jones founded.
