Daines Barrington (1727-1800)

Daines Barrington was a noted lawyer, naturalist and antiquary. The fourth son of a Viscount, he enjoyed a rapid rise through the legal profession, thanks in part to his family connections. He retired in early middle age, having amassed a large fortune and thereafter devoted himself to a large variety of leisure interests from the history of the law to Arctic exploration.

He was an admirer of the musical talents of the sons of Charles Wesley and did a great deal to promote their careers.
